SCIENCE DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
The “Science Development Foundation” of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) is a non-commercial organization created on the basis of voluntary property fees pursuing scientific, educational, social, charity, environmental protection and other aims for public benefit. The Foundation was registered by the RA Legal Persons State Register on 20 August 2007 (Registration No. 222.160.00785, Certificate No. 03Ա076995).
The Foundation was established by the National Academy of
Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. The Academy itself was founded in 1943
during the difficult period of the Second World War and that was not by chance
as in critical times for the country, the sectors of the economy contributing to its
stable development tend to appear on the much more visible foreground.
Armenia is a country with scientific traditions going back for centuries while the history of the Academy is the history of its leading role in all the sectors of science aimed at the development of the national economy, the country’s social and cultural spheres and defense.
Over the past more than 60 years, the Academy has promoted the development of sciences relating to the history of the Armenian people, the Armenian philosophical thought, literature, art, major national economy management issues, astrophysics, radio physics, high temperature superconductivity, nanotechnology and semiconductor nanoelectronics, laser physics, information and communication technologies, energetic, biochemistry of the neuroendocryn immune system of the brain, assessment and prevention of factors negatively influencing the environment, preservation of the natural resources of Lake Sevan, description of bacteriological leaching processes and testing of copper and gold extraction, development of hydroponic growing biotechnologies, generation of substances with new properties from natural raw materials, etc.
The laws of the Republic of Armenia state that the Academy coordinates fundamental research and expertise and the functions of official advisor to the Government.
The Armenian Church has continually demonstrated its care for science and culture and provided sponsorship to them. In fact, the Catholicoses of All Armenians Vazgen I, Garegin I and Garegin II have been elected as honorary academicians of the NAS RA.
Today, our national science needs support. Funding from the government budget is by far insufficient to maintain the development of science on a par with international science. The NAS RA Science Development Foundation was established to secure funding from various sources.
It is always with immense gratitude that we remember those organizations
and individuals that helped significantly in the difficult times for Armenian science by
contributing to numerous projects including those to provide for the social protection
of our scientists. Supporting the Foundation is patriotic. The guarantee of Armenia’s
stable economic development is building a science-based economy through the use
of the country’s intellectual potential. Therefore, we count on support from all stake-
holders – organizations and individuals alike. The Foundation’s financial report will be
provided to the investors at the end of each year.
